STATISTICS OF SHAME: The United States Government is currently spending about as much money on war as the rest of the world combined. This is paid for by about half of U.S. federal income tax. Estimated number of persons incarcerated in the United States in 1980: 500,000. Estimated number of persons incarcerated in the United States in 2019: 2,300,000. The United States now leads the world in the number of people incarcerated and the rate of incarceration. In the United States about 7 million people are either on bail, on parole, or on probation. 22% of all imprisoned people on Earth are in the United States, though US population is only 4.4% of the world. African-Americans now equal the number of incarcerated whites in the US. Is this not the new slavery?
